2025 Arc Board Directors Elected

The 2025 Arc Board Elections have concluded, with 4 candidates elected to represent the student body. The election saw 19 competitive candidates vying for positions, and a total of nearly 2000 votes cast.

The successful candidates were:

• Luke Sheridan, who campaigned on streamlining club grants and improving support for student societies.
• Sophia Nguyen, advocating for inclusivity and affordable club memberships.
• Alice Williams, focused on fostering community and academic support.
• Malcolm Tran, whose unconventional platform promised a fun and vibrant campus culture.

Candidate Statement for Luke Sheridan

Hi, I’m Luke, the Events Director of Wandering Society (Wandersoc) and an active participant in many other societies at UNSW. Arc loves to advertise itself as having “the largest clubs program in Australia,” yet it fails to give back to the hundreds of student volunteers who make it possible. Whether it's underfunding, poor communication, or long-delayed grants, Arc needs to improve.

If elected to Arc Board I intend to:
1. Streamline and improve the club grants process so individual payments are trackable and processed faster with maximum deadlines.
2. Return the spArc login access to 2 execs instead of 1, to increase club flexibility.
3. Give Food Hub a permanent location rather than 3-month leases, which will provide security to students who rely on it.
I understand the major issues facing clubs and I will work hard to provide the best possible experience for societies and the UNSW community.

Candidate Statement for Sophia Nguyen

Hey everybody!

My name is Sophia and I’m running to serve on the ARC Board this year!

As an Australian-born Vietnamese and a senior PR within the Vietnamese Students Association, I’ve always been deeply committed to building a supportive community for all. Through my involvement in both cultural and student-focused initiatives, I've come to truly understand the value of sharing experiences and culture within our societies.

I believe there’s so much more we can do to support students, such as making it cheaper to join uni clubs and promoting student wellbeing. Due to my work in the VSA and other clubs I know how to work across groups to get things done and make real changes to student life.

If elected to the ARC Board, I will dedicate myself to creating a more inclusive university culture, where students from all backgrounds can access the resources they need to succeed.

Candidate Statement for Alice Williams

I’m a third-year Law and Criminology student at UNSW, passionate about building a stronger, more inclusive student community. Having lived on-campus at Philip Baxter College, I’ve seen firsthand how vital a vibrant student life is for academic success and personal well-being. My involvement in the UNSW Law Society as the Beginners Mooting Director and my experience in prestigious mooting competitions have sharpened my leadership and collaboration skills—qualities I’d bring to the Board.
I’m committed to creating an environment where all students can thrive, whether through academic support, mental health resources, or social initiatives. As a former head of the Yearbook Committee and volunteer at various community events, I understand the importance of giving back to the community that shapes us.
Let’s work together to ensure UNSW continues to be a place where every student feels empowered to excel, connect, and contribute.

Candidate Statement for Malcolm Tran

Yo yo yo, I’m here to rizz you into voting for me! If you want the most skibidi campus ever, I’m your rizzler. I’ll mog the usual board by bringing in vibes no one’s ever seen before. We’ll have “Rizz Battles” in the quad, free snacks that hit harder than a TikTok trend, and vibes that scream “Sigma” 24/7. Forget boring meetings—let's fanum tax those and bring in dance challenges, mewing sessions, and “POV” theme parties. Every study space will be a Sigma zone, Wi-Fi so good it’ll make you think you’re in the future. Ohio won’t exist here—we’re all about those gyatt vibes. These candidates will join the 4 students elected in 2024, as well as the ex-officio directors, to oversee Arc’s strategic direction and governance for the next 2 years. This includes overseeing financial and strategic decisions for the organisation, as well as representing student interests on how the university allocates funding from the Student Services and Amenities Fee.

While the results are still considered provisional (pending final eligibility checks), the new directors will convene in the coming weeks for inductions and the annual Board strategic retreat, followed by their first Board meeting in late May/June, where a new Chair of the Board will be elected.
